Weight Management and Nutritonal Support
At Liverpool Vet Nurse, we offer a weight management and nutritional support service. Whilst we cannot diagnose, we can assist you with your pets nutritional needs as per your vets recommendations. If you are concerned regarding your pets weight, we can weigh them in the comfort of your own home (with the exception of large dog breeds due to needing large weighing scales) and discuss with you ways to help improve their diet, lifestyle and their body condition and weight.
It is important to note that this service is a non-clinical service and any abnormalities noted will be recommended to be followed up with your vet. As a RVN, I am unable to diagnose but I am qualified to observe and report to you any signs of abnormalities.
What to expect at your pets Weight Management and Nutritional Support Service
At Liverpool Vet Nurse, we use a fear free approach to our handling techniques. This means we follow your pets lead and make them feel as comfortable as we can during their procedure. Allowing pets to adjust to a new person is a huge help for them to gain trust and confidence around them. I will simply sit with your pet to allow me to gain their trust.
I always bring a selection of treats to every appointment, upon booking I will ask if your pet is on any specific diet or has any condition such as diabetes which may be affected by treats. I will use treats to put pets at ease and allow them to trust my presence.
Once your pet is feeling comfortable and happy, I will begin to carry out the procedure. I will place them on the weighing scales in a way they feel comfortable doing so for example, if your cat or dog wants to stay in their bed, as long as its practical, we can weigh them in their bed and weigh their bed separately. We understand some pets dislike being weighed so we will do all that we can do make them feel as comfortable as possible doing so. Once weighed, we can look at their body condition and discuss what this looks like. We will also discuss their diet and lifestyle to get a better idea of ways we can improve.
Once the procedure is all complete, I will give lots of praise and more treats.
This service also includes virtual support for 4 consecutive weeks following your appointment, for support and guidance regarding the plan in place for your pets weight management. Repeat Weight Management and Nutritional Support appointments will be £25
You will receive a document with details of all the observational findings of the examination for your information. It is to be noted this document is not a clinical document and all information is based on observations and recommendations i.e. referral to your vet for any further clinical examinations.
