New Pet Desensitisation Visit
At Liverpool Vet Nurse, we are passionate about providing a Fear Free experience. This sometimes means those older pets, who may have had some negative, stressful or frightening experiences in their lifetime, can find basic care difficult to cope with.
We offer Fearful Pet Visits whereby we go at their pace and we start with creating positive associations with things like being stroked, handled, weighed and also positive associations with equipment such as nail clippers. We then aim to move onto being able to carry out procedures such as Nail Clipping with less fear and stress. This process can take time and patience and can be incredibly satisfying for the patient, owner and myself.
New Pet Desensitisation Visits aim to create all of these positive associations before they’ve experienced the negative! We can help acclimatise your new puppy or kitten or even your new Rabbit or Guinea Pigs with things they will experience throughout their lifetime mostly at a Veterinary Practice. Getting your new pet used to being held and handled will allow a Veterinary Professional to do the same. But it is also very important to have your new pet used to having their health checks which require looking at their eyes, nose, mouth and ears and also feeling their limbs, abdomen and listening to their lungs and heart with a stethoscope. There’s more… it is also very helpful to have your new pet used to having their nails clipped, teeth examine or brushed depending on the species, temperature taken as well as being groomed.
All of this is so easy to forget when you’re welcoming a new pet into your lives, the cuddles, playtime and all the fun stuff is way more exciting, however, we are here to help you help your pet have a much easier, stress free experience with vet visits, grooming visits and anything else in-between.
So, if you’ve welcomed a new pet into your life and wish to give them the opportunity to maybe even enjoy being examined or at least not feel so stressed and anxious with procedures such as health checks, nail clipping or teeth brushing, then why not book us in for a New Pet Desensitisation Visit.
