General Health Check
A general health check is an opportunity to give your pets a check over to make sure they don’t have signs of illness or disease that could be easily missed. This is an examination starting with their ears, eyes, nose and mouth, and working our way to their tails covering everything in-between.
It is important to note that this health check is a non-clinical service and any abnormalities noted will be recommended to be followed up with your vet. As a RVN, I am unable to diagnose but I am qualified to observe and report to you any signs of abnormalities.
This service is designed for healthy pets not for those who are currently under the care of their vet for medication or condition monitoring. Any illness or condition reviews MUST be carried out by your vet.
What to expect at your pets general health check appointment.
At Liverpool Vet Nurse, we use a fear free approach to our handling techniques. This means we follow your pets lead and make them feel as comfortable as we can during their procedure. Allowing pets to adjust to a new person is a huge help for them to gain trust and confidence around them. I will simply sit with your pet to allow me to gain their trust.
I always bring a selection of treats to every appointment, upon booking I will ask if your pet is on any specific diet or has any condition such as diabetes which may be affected by treats. I will use treats to put pets at ease and allow them to trust my presence.
Once your pet is feeling comfortable and happy, I will begin to carry out the procedure. I will examine your pet starting from their head including looking at their ears, eyes, nose and mouth and working my way to the tip of their tail!
Once the procedure is all complete, I will give lots of praise and more treats.
You will receive a document with details of all the observational findings of the examination for your information. It is to be noted this document is not a clinical document and all information is based on observations and recommendations i.e. referral to your vet for any further clinical examinations.
